#1 Adrian- Thrice: At The Last

I love this song, obviously which is why it’s my #1 pick of 2010. But the reason I really dig this song is because its gritty, grungy, and very poetic. That is one thing I have always liked about Thrice. The lyrics are written as prose that seemingly fit inside of a song. The second thing I like about this song is the message, and the reflection within the lyrics. The song itself is written from the perspective of a person who is looking back on his life at all the things he done, and while he might of have a few indulgences he never partook in anything majorly terrible. I love how the subjects position changes in the song, and he goes from celebrating the fact that he has done nothing wrong to questioning what he has done.

I’m a good man.
I’m a good man.
Am I a good man?
I thought I was,
But the rewards of this life now count for naught.
My body: soon buried and left to rot.
The time’s gone, how quickly it all has passed.

My God, now I see how I’ve squandered each and every breath.

Ultimately the point of this song is to show you that without God nothing is good. That we are all engulfed in sin and without God’s Grace our actions are futile and meaningless. That is why I chose Thrice “At The Last” as my #1 song of 2010 on Power FM.
